FEDERATION OF GREEN PARTIES OF THE AMERICAS AGREES TO SUPPORT THE INTER-AMERICAN ENVIRONMENTAL CHARTER

In a unanimous agreement during the XIX Annual Meeting of the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas (FPVA), held in Cartagena, Colombia, from November 14 to 16, 2018, a resolution was approved to support the discussion of the Inter-American Environmental Charter and the Proclamation of the Constitution of the Rights of Mother Earth before the Organization of American States.

A commission of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace of Colombia accompanied Dr. Manuel Díaz, permanent consultant of the FPVA, in the presentation of the environmental proposals that are being socialized by the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace and created by the executive president of this organization, Dr. William Soto Santiago.

After the presentation, different delegates from the countries of America that attended this assembly expressed their verbal support and special comments to these environmental proposals and congratulated Dr. Soto and the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace for the work that is being done internationally and in each country of America, especially, by obtaining more than 600 decrees and proclamations from local governments in support of these documents.

In private work meetings, the Executive Co-Chair of the FPVA, Antolín Polanco and representative of the Green Party of the Dominican Republic, together with Dr, Manuel Díaz de Venezuela, led the commission that drafted the Resolution document of the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas to environmental proposals.

In the national press conference, Mr. Polanco, stated in his statements on behalf of the FPVA, the following:

We consider that many of the deliberations and resolutions determine that America is the Continent of the Future, and therefore, the theme of Eco-politics will be very important for the future of humanity. Consequently, we announce our support for the proposal of the Inter-American Environmental Charter consigned to the Organization of American States (OAS) by the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) led by Dr. William Soto Santiago, and his Proclamation of the Constitution of the Rights of Mother Earth, recognizing that it is a living being, that it has rights and that it requires its protection and restoration.

Finally, in the afternoon, the plenary assembly unanimously approved the text of the resolution, which was signed by the three co-presidents of the Federation of the Green Parties of the Americas FPVA: Antolin Polanco of the Dominican Republic, Margot Soria of Guatemala and Alejandro San Martin from Chile.

BEFORE THE OAS

THE FEDERATION OF THE GREEN PARTIES OF THE AMERICAS

WHEREAS

That on June 3 of this year, the proposal of the Inter-American Environmental Charter and the Proclamation for the Constitution of the Rights of Mother Earth was presented at the Civil Society Forum in the Organization of American States (OAS), giving start the analysis for its expansion and approval.

WHEREAS

That it is very important for the green leaders of America when facing new challenges related to the essential aspects of public management for sustainability and the fight of Climate Change

WHEREAS

That the new times and the environmental complexity demand expansion and / or renewal of international environmental law and the administration of justice, with conflicts of interests and clear legal resolutions in favor of the fight against climate change.

WHEREAS

That environmental rights are based on the ethical duty of solidarity of the species and the intrinsic value of nature for the need of its conservation, in the most favorable sense to continually maintain the human species and other living beings.

WHEREAS

That we have reached a moment in history when we must orient our actions throughout the continent, paying more attention to the consequences that can be had for the environment.

AGREES

In the framework of its XIX Annual Meeting of the Federation of Green Parties of Americas to be held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, support the Proposal of the Inter-American Environmental Charter consigned to the Organization of American States OAS, presented by the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) led by Dr. William Soto Santiago and other environmental institutions of America and his Proclamation of the Constitution of the Rights of Mother Earth, recognizing that she is a living being and that she requires protection.

Make this agreement public and encourage all our green leaders who are in positions of popular election and Eco-political Directorate to promote their adhesion and support for its concretion, where the recognition of the rights of Mother Earth must be respected, in order to guarantee life development of present and future generations.
