The Global Embassy of Activists for Peace promotes the digital signature for the approval of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth.
On July 5, 2016, legislature Dardo Alberto Iturria, received the committee of the regional coordinator of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP), Mario Gabriel Veliz, in his office, with the purpose of adhering his name to the movement that seeks support towards the proposal of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth through digital signatures.
This declaration seeks the recognition of the rights of Mother Earth as a “Living Being”, which happens to be the fundamental ethical principle of the International Program “Children of Mother Earth”. This is an ancestral concept of our indigenous people, which are currently supported by the amended resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, as well as scientific support.
By accepting Mother Earth as a living being that has life and gives life, we should also recognize that she automatically becomes a right holder; hence the importance of the approval of this proposition of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth; an initiative of Dr. William Soto Santiago, which includes twenty-two articles that aim to ensure the continuity of life on planet Earth and those who inhabit her.
