US Consulate joins blood drive campaign

Employees of the Consulate General of the United States in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, donated blood voluntarily during a drive held by the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP), in coordination with the Blood Bank of this region, as part of the Project "Life is in the Blood".

The donations were made during Wednesday morning, March 14, 2018, at the facilities of the Consulate, with a total of 31 effective blood units reached.

In Mexico, only 3.8% of blood donations are obtained voluntarily, according to data from the National Center for Blood Transfusion in the country. To achieve an adequate and reliable supply of safe blood, citizen participation and collaboration of the institutions is required.

The workers of the Consulate expressed their gratitude to the authorities of the health sector and EMAP for giving them the opportunity to participate in the donation campaign "Life is in the Blood".

In this way, the staff contributed to the promotion of a culture of voluntary, altruistic and regular donation of safe blood, since the lack of safe and effective blood supply is a problem that knows no boundries.
