Quito celebrates World Blood Donor Day
On June 14, the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) joined the celebration of World Blood Donor Day, identifying with the goal of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) to reach 100% of voluntary donation by 2019.
The capital of Ecuador, Quito, held an event regarding this commemoration. Activists of the GEAP in coordination with the Public Health Ministry developed an expo with the objective of sharing the requisites, procedures, and benefits of voluntary blood donation.
During the event, they took the opportunity to thanks the donors for their voluntary donations and create awareness on the importance of donating this vital liquid regularly, since this is an act of love and responsibility.
In the development of the program, they held cultural movements, dynamic modules of information and creating awareness in the community, and also a center of donation where they collected 100 effective units of blood.
Authorities, such as the director of District 17D06, Solange Zurita, coordinator of Promotion and Prevention of Health of District 17D06, members of the Ecuadorian Red Cross, the national coordinator of the GEAP in Ecuador, and other members of the community participated in this important event.
It is important for more and more people to join and voluntary donate blood so that blood centers are always stocked, and thus save the lives of those in need.
