Mariam Wallet Aboubakrine is a member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

She is a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Tizi-Ouzou in Algeria as doctor of Mali. Specialist in ophthalmology, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics and general medicine.

From her youth, she has held roles in Tin Hinan in the area of ​​health, nutrition, malaria prevention and sexual and reproductive health education among the Tuareg. This association works for the defense, promotion and development of the indigenous peoples of Africa, in particular the Tuareg (Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Mauritania and Libya).

Wallet, has a master's degree in Humanitarian Action from the University of Geneva, Interventions in Crisis: armed conflict, marginalization / exclusion and natural disasters (earthquake, tsunami, drought, flood).

She participated in training on Convention 169 organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO), Tin-Hinan 2001 in Ouagadougou and the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

She was a volunteer of the African NGO for human rights at the regular sessions of the Human Rights Council of the Universal Periodic Review in Africa.

At the present, Mariam Wallet advocates the living conditions of the Tuareg, and continues her studies in the area of ​​health, focusing on the role of traditional medicine in Tuareg, Mali.
