As part of the Marathon, the Activists for Peace gave an awareness lecture to more than 400 cadets of the academy, where they highlighted the importance that voluntary blood collection has on society.

At the same time, the Activists for Peace presented the Integral Program "Life is in the Blood" to those present. A program that was proposed and created by the Global Ambassador for Peace, Dr. William Soto Santiago, and carried out by the GEAP.

This intervention program was created with the objective of contributing with active and efficient citizen participation to form a culture of voluntary, altruistic and habitual safe blood donation.

During the activity, 70 cadets registered to participate during the blood drive marathon that reached a total a 58 usable blood units, which were delivered to different hospitals and blood banks in Ciudad Juarez. According to Pan American Health Orgainzation (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), blood supply has to come from voluntary unpaid donations to ensure self-sufficiency, availability and blood safety.

Ayline Patricia Jiménez, cancer survivor, after visiting the extraction area, said:

“I am a cancer survivor; there are many people just like me that have gone through the same thing and have received blood thanks to these campaigns. We greatly thank all the support, happiness and longer life that you give us.”

The GEAP volunteers from Ciudad Juárez are reaching the end of the 7th International Marathon “Life is in the Blood”, which has already united more volunteer blood donors and they are preparing to commence the next marathon for life, the 8th Marathon.
