In Mexico, health authorities from the state are grateful for this work BENEFITING THE HEALTH OF MEXICANS WITH THE 4TH INTERNATIONAL BLOOD DRIVE MARATHON
The Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) worked hard throughout the Mexican territory with the 4th International Blood Drive Marathon, achieving recognition form national health authorities for the results obtained from 8,048 sensitized people and volunteers, who came to donate in the different centers designed for that, obtaining a total of 4,612 units of blood, which means health benefits for 18,448 patients at risk.
With the objective of contributing to the education of blood donation in their communities, the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace in Mexico undertook the task of conducting informative events, of promotion and awareness, press conferences, and flyer distribution in malls and during large events, which has allowed these significant numbers to be achieved.
The blood bank receptors in the state of Mexico were the General Hospital of Ecatepec “las Americas”, Cuautitlán General Hospital “General Vicente Villada”, and Maternal and Perinatal Hospital “Mónica Pretelini Sáenz”. In places where there is no equipment to carry out donations, the creation of new blood banks is handled with the authorities and entities in the healthcare unit, as in the case of Cd. Acuña, as well as new logistics to find ways to get more and more results in voluntary blood donation.
Other activities that the GEAP executes within the framework of the 4th International Blood Drive Marathon, is taking educational lectures to the universities and inviting young people to donate blood. At the same time, mobile units are used in order to facilitate participation in these donation campaigns. Also, churches, private companies and general public are invited to participate in this international campaign “Life is in the Blood”, donating the sap of life.
In Toluca, State of Mexico, Dr. Isis María López Baltazar, Head of State Blood Transfusion Center, said that 28% of the donation collected were due thanks to the to the increase in the distribution and involvement of Mexicans during the 4th International Blood Drive Marathon conducted by the GEAP during the months of October and November.
This blood that is collected is taken by the state blood banks and hospitals that work together with the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace and is used in cardiac surgery, transplant surgery, treatment of serious injuries, cancer treatment and in cases of pregnancy-related complications and severe childhood anemia, among other problems that are solved thanks to this vital liquid.
The Pan American Health Organization honored Mexico, by being chosen in the American region as the host country in celebration of the 2014 World Blood Donor Day. In this event Senator Ivon Alvares and Dr. Jesús Zacarías Villarreal, head of the Ministry of Health, granted recognition to the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace, represented by its National coordinator, Mr. Francisco Javier Guerra González, as the institution with the greatest convening capacity in campaigns of voluntary blood donation in the country.
