Medicine students join the International Project “Life is in the Blood”

The 6th International Marathon opens a space of education and awareness for a culture of blood donation

More than 70 students of the Medicine Faculty of the Veracruz University (UV) in Poza Rica of Hidalgo, Mexico joined the International Project “Life is in the Blood” of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP), while carrying out an awareness journey under the framework of the 6th International Marathon of Blood Donation (November 2015).

The Main Hall of this maximum house of studies of the state of Veracruz, recognized as the most influential university of the southwest part of the Mexican Republic, was the place where this event was held, which counted with the participation of academic authorities, medical students and Activists for Peace.

Dr. Ricardo Ruiz Rios, chief of education of the Medicine Faculty of the Campus Poza Rica-Tuxpan; Dr. Margarita Itzel Gamboa Santos, local official of Health, Reproduction and A.I.D.S., and official representative of the Students Association of Medicine; Dr. Jose David Navarrete Santiago, project director; and Alan Corona, leader of Medical students were present during the event.

Through a speech given by the Activists of peace, the students learned about the project “Life is in the Blood”; a social intervention project proposed and designed by Dr. William Soto, Global Ambassador and Executive President of the GEAP, in order to contribute towards the active and efficient participation of the citizens in the formation of a voluntary, altruist and regular culture of safe blood donation.

They also learned about the International Marathons and blood donation marathons, which are the second component of the three strategic components that the project establishes.

At the end of the presentation, future doctors identified with the project and manifested their wish to join and cooperate in the marathons, drives and events that are carried out under the framework of this international initiative.

The entity of Veracruz occupies the fifth national place in voluntary blood donation, with a State Center of Blood Transfusion (CETS), six blood banks and more than 1,800 donors, according to the report of CETS 2014.
