With firm step the 7th International Marathon in Saltillo started
Students and civil society donated the sap of life
The celebration room “La Colmena” located in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, was the place where on April 13, 2016, the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP), under the framework of the 7th International Marathon “Life is in the Blood”, carried out a blood donation marathon.
Students of the Escuela de Enfermería y Formación Profesional para la Salud Dorothea E. Orem, parents, Dr. Silvia Lopez, director of the Blood Transfusion State Center (CETS), doctors, nurses, social workers, El Diario de Cohauila and El Siglo de Coahuila supported the activity.
Numbers that are raising
The marathon started with the installation of the mobile unit of CETS which allowed people to donate voluntarily. The assistants manifested their satisfaction for being able to help others without expecting something in return.
Lopez expressed that the numbers of the voluntary donors have raised, thanks to the work the GEAP carries out through the Communicational Education Program for the formation of a voluntary, altruist and regular blood donation culture (PEC VIDA) and the International Marathons.
300 effective units of blood it is the goal
The 7th International Marathon “Life is in the Blood” will go through different cities of Mexico and will end on May 26, with simultaneous marathons all over the country. On the 6th Marathon it was reached 100 effective units in Saltillo, and for this first semester of 2016, the goal is 300.
One of the health centers that will beneficiate from this is the Hospital del Niño with 85% of the effective units and the 15% left will be distributed in different institutions of the city through CETS.
A trip through life
On April 27 the Facultad de Enfermería de la Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila (UAdeC) will be the headquarters for the next marathon. On May 3 the Facultad de Medicina will open its doors to receive voluntary donors.
On May 4 and 5 the Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Navarro, will participate in the 7th International Marathon. On May 12 and 13, students of the campus Arteaga de la Autónoma de Coahuila and on May 24, students of the school Escuela Normal de Especializaciones, will be present in the marathons.
The student community of the Universidad Interamericana para el Desarrollo, on May 25 will be giving their support of life, and finally on May 26 will be the turn of the Universidad Politécnica de Ramos Arizpe.
