In Colombia the Activists for peace make the World Blood Donor Day a national celebration

Colombia

The media, health institutions and thousands of volunteers, joined to the call to give life to humanity with blood donations.

Donating blood is a necessity which requires creating awareness in every human being. The accidents and surgical interventions demand an immediate solution. For this reason every year the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) make a call in more than twenty countries where they have representations, so that in alliance with health institutions, blood banks, governmental entities, private companies, media and thousands of volunteers, carry out constant journeys and two International Blood Drive Marathons (June and November), which raises awareness in the population of that requirement of life which can only be voluntarily donated by an aware human being with an altruist heart.

In Colombia, the Activists for peace have assumed the voluntary role, not only to contribute a pint of blood but at the same time to participate through promotions in different creative ways, starting to make aware the household and also joining to impact cities and finally all the country.

Recognize and learn the habit to donate life with safe blood

These constant activities result in an increase of the number of voluntary donors, that have recognized the importance of being conscious of health care to keep participating in these activities and to acquire the good habit of taking care of their health, also to obtain the happiness of being able to save up to four lives who will benefit from their pint of blood.

"I have done it with pleasure, I have done it with love, because I want to; and it is good that people became aware of it and did it.".

On the other hand, Dr. Sandra Paola Hurtado Palacio, Governor of the Department of Quindío, said: "From the Government obviously can campaign in different sectors, educative institutions and others; and starting, obviously, by example. And that is why we are going to promote a day where we ourselves will start floor by floor to promote the fact that people can donate blood”.

Drops march through the streets

June 14 is World Blood Donor Day established by the World Health Organization (WHO) where this year under the theme: "Thank you for saving my life", the Colombian peace Activists recreated it as a national holiday during the weekend, where the drops paraded through the streets in the middle of caravans, announcements, puppets and banners.

As a part of the media, they mentioned that on June 9, the Activists for peace dressed the municipality of Zarzal in red, to invite donors. On the other hand, on June 11, the event was held under the slogan: "Although I do not know you ... Thank you for saving my life", it sustained the special mention received by the Red Cross of Bolivar to the GEAP, who exalted the work of those regular donors who for years have been dedicated to carrying out this solidarity work.

Simultaneously, the Activists for Peace of the city of Cúcuta in the facilities of the blood bank of the Hospital Meoz, in the Coliseo del Sena of Pereira, in Plaza de Bolívar de Manizales, in the Sena de Girardot and the great parade through the streets of Pitalito, Huila, on June 12, they held the prelude to a great celebration whose sole purpose is to create greater awareness in each Colombian.

On the other hand, commercial centers such as the Caribe Plaza de Cartagena, began to join one by one the same day and media like Telepacífico, transmitted since early in the day the objective of the caravan and artistic acts that invaded the city of Cali on June 13: "The fundamental purpose of this 5th Marathon is to create a culture of blood donation", said the Regional Coordinator of GEAP, Juan Carlos Garcia.

The party followed "Al son de tambores", according to the Activists located in the Plaza Cívica Luis Carlos Galán of Bucaramanga and the participation of the stilt walkers, who headed the walk in Huila, whose signs said: "Donate blood, donate life”.

Finally, on Saturday 13th, of the mentioned month, in approximately 30 major cities and other towns of Colombia, the joy continued because of the fact that it was possible to donate life, under a splendid sky, with walks through the streets, alive paintings that in the middle of the parade in Sincelejo were recreated behind a cardboard frame, as well as different characters in disguise, such as the "Giant Syringe of Armenia" and the "Hero Red Coat and Hat" that invited passers-by from Ibague to participate in this celebration.

In a commercial center in the city of Cali, the Director of Fundación Artística y Cultural Barrunto, Milton Rivas, Milton Rivas, commented: "We usually have very young dancers, under 18, who love music, art, and are part of our group; for being so small they can’t donate, but they can support campaigns like these with the art that we practice", in addition it thanked the GEAP for the invitation.

Meanwhile, Maty Luz Mercado Palencia, Bacteriologist and Promoter of the Blood Bank Santa María of Sincelejo, also pronounced:

"Today it seemed very important to me this work that they took by hand, making walks, going to the traffic lights, walking around the center of the city; to pinch a little the population about the importance of donating blood; because to donate blood can also contribute to a new culture and education of the population”.

Caravans with cars, motorcycles and balloons in the department of Valle and other parts of the country did not stop to extend the invitation, recreated by a rain of blood drops made in different dimensions, but of a very red and smiling color, which not only did they jumped with signs to make the observers throb, but they were being pumped by thousands of arms to achieve thousands of effective blood units, which will make beat again many Colombian hearts to help save the lives of many people who require it, it shows a country committed to helping its fellow men and aimed to sow a culture of peace.
