University students attend to blood drive

Mexico

During 10 days of February the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) through the Integral Program of Blood Donation: Life is in the Blood, carried out blood drives in the different faculties of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), in San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico.

This program aims to contribute to the formation of a culture of voluntary, altruistic and regular safe blood donation, to increase the active and effective participation of the citizens, in order to guarantee the blood supply and its components to all the people that require it.

Different faculties of the UANL participated in the blood drives, and the Activists for Peace promoted the love for others by donating blood on a voluntarily, achieving a significant number of effective units.

Creating a Culture

It is important to note that many students had already participated in previous blood drives, who on this occasion were again blood donors; action that encourages the regular safe blood donation culture.

Zoe Ramos, a student at the Faculty of Social Work and Human Development, testified:

"As a child, my grandmother needed this vital liquid, however my parents and I could not donate at that time; that is why my desire to help others is born through a regular blood donation."

During the whole activity there were a total of 1,320 people sensitized, 569 records and a collection of 286 effective blood units; in this way it was possible to contribute to the formation of a culture of voluntary, altruistic and regular safe blood donation.

In this sense, the GEAP through the voluntary Activists develops the PEC-LIFE communicative program to cover all areas: community, social, educational and organizational, creating awareness in the human family.
