Summary of the Corporate Social Responsibility Session Cumipaz - 2016
From October 4th to the 8th, the Legislative Palace of the Republic of Paraguay, in the events room of the Granados Park Hotel, was the host of four important multidisciplinary meetings for peace within the framework of the Peace Integration Summit CUMIPAZ - 2016.
The first Corporate Social Responsibility Encounter for Sustainable Development was a gathering of successful and distinguished entrepreneurs from different parts of the world who through dialogue and socialization contributed their knowledge for an effective business development that within an economic and competitive context can positively and amicably transform social life, education, and culture within its surroundings.
“To think of a Global Sustainable Development is to care for our Mother Earth. It is sowing positive values in the hearts of human beings through education and culture.”
“If we want a true development of nations, a true economic business development, it must go hand in hand with planning in the educational field, in the social field, and with the cultural field, but most importantly with respect for the environment, for our Mother Earth, and the recognition of the planet as a living being with rights.”
“We desire a positive result and the strengthening of relationships between every country that represent the Activists for Peace today.”
Beyond an economic result, the entrepreneurs of CUMIPAZ considered that inclining towards social reality is a synonym of working with equity; that everything regarding the environment must be seen in terms of sustainability, and that the proposal for a CSR culture is translated into an education for peace.
“Universities, education, are an educational entity, but I have a second conclusion businesses are an educational entity from a cultural, communicational, corporate government point of view.”
“We find ourselves in a new competitive context where the rules of the game become important and depending on its activities then you can work on reducing the impacts on the chain of value generating a benefit for the company and for society.”
“If families have resources, if families have education, if families have awareness then we can change the world through families.”
“We count with environmental education programs in more than 100 schools in the area where we train children of early age in every topic of environmental protection.”
The proposals, contributions, and pledges of CSR for the wellbeing of the human family and of Mother Earth, contributed towards the objectives of this first session; considering that apart from the people, the planet, and benefit it is necessary to recognize culture as an additional component or fourth indicator to triple the results of management assessment.
“Six years ago this issue of sustainability or social action was not very relevant for the consumer; each time it is becoming more relevant and if we got into this for thinking we have to attend to global issues, today we say whoever does not get into this will disappear.”
“I think that corporations, as well as all of us, behave according to context and initiatives and I have a theory and it is that businesses react in a different way and also are supported by research in the social, political, and economical context.”
“We need responsibility, consistency, and above all we need motivation.”
The last panel was composed of entrepreneurs, representatives from the political field, and also part of the private sector. The debate revolved around determining if Corporate Social Responsibility should be a legal requirement of the state or as a philanthropic commitment and even welfare in the business sector. That is how the experts concluded that CSR has a governmental and corporate commitment, but moreover it should be ethical and voluntary.

“Social Responsibility places the entrepreneur in a situation of being a positive factor not only from the economic point of view, but also from the social standpoint in the greatest sense of the word.”
“Yes, within this project of law, what we have done is create a program of socially responsible businesses with the law enforcement agency, which would be the ministry of industry and commerce.”
CSR for a sustainable development has to do with more than just attitudinal reprogramming in favor of Mother Earth. The corporate culture consists of contributions that every human being provides from their active participation in the economy; living in the present but visualizing a future that benefits the entire human family.
