Future Mexican doctors contribute towards a blood donation culture
“We have had this goal for a long time and today it was achieved”, were the words of Dr. Rodolfo Gatica Marquina, director of the Medicine Faculty of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) of Cuernavaca, where the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP), along with the Blood Transfusion State Center (CETS), held a blood drive marathon “Life is in the Blood” where student participation was obtained.
The Integral Program “Life is in the Blood” of the GEAP, works to strengthen the culture of blood donation with the purpose of making it voluntary, altruist and regular, so that it is always available, not just in emergencies.
This marathon was carried out with the participation of the medical students, Pablo Uriel Morales Duran, president of the Medical Training Association of the UAEM and Fernanda Salinas, local official of Public Health of the Medical Training Association, of the State of Morelos (AMFEMOR) and Members of the Association, who performed the preregistration of donors and showed happiness and gratefulness for the support given by the GEAP.
The professor and investigator Jose Angeles Chimal, of the Medicine Faculty of the University and responsible of the Experimental Transfusion Medicine Laboratory, expressed his happiness for this type of activity and his desire for the continuity of promoting a voluntary and altruist blood donation culture, since these types of work are of vital importance for society.
At the end of the marathon, the coordinator of the GEAP in the State of Morelos, Olimpia Alvarez, manifested that with the participation of 120 people, 50 effective units were collected among the students and relatives, who expressed their gratitude for these activities.
