Students and teachers from different educational institutions attended the photo gallery "The Holocaust and Other Genocides" (February 20) and the University Forum "Educating to Remember" 

Students and teachers from different educational institutions attended the photo gallery "The Holocaust and Other Genocides" (February 20) and the University Forum "Educating to Remember" (February 21); events held in defense of human rights.

Likewise, municipal authorities, special guests and the general public were present, who received information about the consequences of disrespect to life.

More than 800 people participated in the events that the GEAP carried out based on the study the history of the Holocaust and other genocides, since these facts left universal teachings that must be transmitted to present and future generations, to form human beings who work for the peace of the human family.

Holocaust Gallery

The Councilor for Education and Culture of the City of Tehuacán, José Pozos, and the national coordinator of the GEAP, Francisco Guerra, were in charge of opening the photographic exhibition "The Holocaust and Other Genocides".

Attendees toured the photographic exhibition that evidenced the Nazi Holocaust, where six million Jews were violated of their rights.

University Forum "Educate to Remember"

On February 21, in the courtyard of the columns of the cultural complex El Carmen was held the University Forum "Educating to Remember", this activity had the special participation of Holocaust survivor Luis Opatowski.

Also, Bernardo Pozos, director of Education and Culture, delegate of the municipal president; the researcher of the Benemérita Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP) Paulino Arellanés; and the representative of GEAP Josiel Vargas.

Bernardo Pozos was in charge of the opening of the event that contributes to the teaching and learning process, containing topics on respect, tolerance, justice, equity, equality, solidarity, study and promotion of Human Rights.

"When we are able to form human beings who see each other in themselves and who are able to see in the other a brother to reach out to, we will really be congruent with the philosophy of education that is sought in our country," he said.

Similarly, the historian Romanowsky gave a brief account of what happened in World War II, the result of intolerance, hatred and racism.

Hand prints

The survivor Luis Opatowsky shared with the audience his testimony; in his address he commented:

"More than 70 years ago, being only a child, I was humiliated, insulted, beaten and discriminated against for the sole reason of being Jewish."

A plaque in the form of the Star of David was presented which contains the palm prints of survivor Opatowsky, those of his son and those of his granddaughter. The Plaque also contains a slide that tells a brief description of what he went through during the Holocaust.
