Asuncion, Paraguay
On Thursday, March 20, 2014, the Directors of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace met with the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, in the Government Palace, wherein the Global Ambassador, Dr. William Soto, introduced to the President the law project to include “The Holocaust: Paradigm of Genocide” into the school system as a subject of study in schools, and as a case study in universities.
Dr. Soto also explained that one can teach for war or teach for peace. He stressed that education is a powerful and essential tool for the prevention of genocide as an international crime: “An education that is centered on human values, constitutional principles; an education based on respect for the differences and the autonomy of peoples, where cultural and religious diversity, as well as the resolution of conflicts of interest, will allow us to strengthen the hope for a harmonic and peaceful coexistence.”
Among other initiatives, they also introduced the project regarding the Amendment to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and the Rome Statute, as well as the proposal to implement permanent observatories to monitor segregation and racial, political, religious, cultural, gender, or any other kind of discrimination in countries where these observatories have not yet been implemented.
