Football tournament promotes peace in an El Salvador school
On May 4, 2018, the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) in El Salvador, with the support of the teaching and administrative staff of the Profesora Mercedes Maiti de Luarca School, organized the event “Football Tournament for Peace,” an event that took place in the multiple court of this educational institution.
Considering that sports promote a healthy lifestyle, it promotes companionship and social integration, the student community based its proposal “Development of a mini football tournament for peace” in this effective tool for the promotion of peace.
This marathon managed to impact 200 people, among them, high school students, teachers and activists for peace, who see sports as an inspiration for youth, because it transmits positive values such as tolerance, teamwork, among others.
Through the Educational School Workshop Educating to Remember The Holocaust Paradigm of Genocide, held on March 14, the activity emerged, which recognizes the importance of promoting a peaceful society that relates sports to the protection of human dignity.
Sportsmen in action
With the integration of young people into sports teams, the proposal “Development of a mini soccer tournament for peace” was carried out. This activity was made up of different categories. To register for the tournament, students met the rules established by the organizing committee:
-
Male and female teams will participate.
-
The teams will be made up of students from different sections (This action allowed fellowship among students from different classrooms).
-
Design and develop at least one poster with a positive message in favor of peace.
-
Each team must wear a white shirt as a sign of peace.
The GEAP considers that students have the energy to transform society and constitute a fundamental pillar in the social, technological and scientific development of a nation, because they have multiple strengths, abilities, talents and dynamism.
