Representatives of indigenous people gathered for the preservation of Mother Earth

On June 18, 2016, the 3rd Regional Encounter of the Children of Mother Earth was carried out in Bogota in the GUE ATYQUIIB MUISCA Center of Intercultural Thought of Suba, an event organized by the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP).

160 representatives of 10 ethnic groups and 223 volunteers of the GEAP along with their coordinators gathered with the purpose of contributing solutions and to rescue the ancestral culture, and take it as an example to reconnect the human being with Mother Earth and help restore her.

This 3rd Regional Encounter summoned the Muisca community of Suba, Chia, and Sesquile, as well as the representatives of the Wayuu, Nasa, Yanacona, Inga, Huitoto, Cubay del Vaupes, Misak, Hiunsan, and Camentsa ethnicities.

During the encounter, the members of the indigenous people presented cultural and ritual expressions to those present. At the same time, they participated in workshops with different themes, where they presented their vision and ancestral knowledge.

The International Program “Children of Mother Earth” is a group of projects that contains campaigns and different actions in four work areas.

Among those areas we have: the promotion of the ancestral culture of the indigenous people of Mother Earth for a Sustainable Development. This project is aimed at approaching indigenous people.

Among culture, rituals, and proposals in favor of the Mother Earth

At the Plaza del Sol a ritual opening act of welcoming music was given by the experienced grandparents.

Next, with the objective of blessing the activity, a call was carried out to the four elements (earth, water, wind, and fire), where the participants closed their eyes and directed their cosmogonic thoughts to each one of the peoples.

On his behalf, Mr. Willer Yarrecudo Achanga, governor of Witoto Cabildo, expressed:

“So, it is more than an event (...) there are grandfathers, grandmothers, knowledgeable people, that are truly in the territory, citizens of Mother Nature, and who conserve it and that live with those uses and customs.”

During the workshops they shared proposals regarding the importance of conserving Mother Earth and the rights of all peoples, upon the foundation of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Indigenous people.

Mr. Yawar Chicangana, mayor of the Yanacona cabildo, manifested:

“Count on us for Peace, not for war; call us to make a proposal.”

The encounter ended by reading the conclusions of the workshops. The proposals will be given to the Global Ambassador of Peace, Dr. William Soto, within the framework of the 2nd International Encounter of the Children of Mother Earth that will take place in Columbia at the beginning of August 2016.
