The GEAP and the MEC of Paraguay renew their cooperation agreement

Paraguay

For an integral formation based on ethical, moral and spiritual principles and values in Paraguayan education.

On Monday, August 14, 2017, under the Program Educating to Remember, the GEAP signed with the Ministry of Education and Science (MEC) of Paraguay the renewal of the Cooperation Agreement within the scope of its competencies for the development of programs and projects properly established, focused and related to the promotion, dissemination and protection of human rights and a culture of peace.

This agreement results in conducting training workshops for teachers, as it has been implemented since 2014 with Program Educating to Remember, which promotes principles, values and human rights through the study of the Holocaust, strengthening a culture of peace and respect for the dignity of the human family, for the development of an integral education.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Enrique Riera Escudero, Minister of Education and Science of Paraguay, Mr. William Paras, National Coordinator of the GEAP in Paraguay and Dr. William Soto Santiago, Executive President of the GEAP.

"These kinds of steps are what the Ministry needs. General knowledge abounds today, because anyone through a cell phone can access thousands of knowledge; but if they are not accompanied by values they have no meaning (...) The secret is always that knowledge goes hand in hand with values; and for that we need to make a great effort, to work with all levels of the Ministry of Education," said the Minister of Education.

For her part, the director of the GEAP, Gabriela Lara, said: "Education has an extremely important work to do; and our goal as an institution through the Program Educating to Remember is to attend a convention, to become people who promote in the hearts and minds of students a culture of peace.”

For the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace the signing of this Agreement extends to more than 1,929 schools, in which about 1.5 million students are educated.

The signing of this agreement gives rise to the continuity of the work that has been carried out with the Training Courses "Sensitization for the prevention of violence towards children and adolescents – Educating to Remember" directed to the "Network of educators against all forms of violence” of the twelve Departments of Paraguay; with the distribution and implementation of Dr. William Soto Santiago's "Educating to Remember" Educational Level Manual, declared an Educational Interest by Resolution No. 7957 on April 19, 2017, by the Ministry of Education and Science.
