With the objective of introducing the project Traces to Remember into the field of education, on May 22, 2013, the international directors of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace held a meeting with the Vice President of Costa Rica, Dr. Alfio Piva Mesen, and Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Alvarado Chavez.

—William Soto, Global Ambassador of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace—

“We have a Star of David where they place their hands, the handprints of a survivor, and each month the plaque rotates to different places and it is displayed so that people can visit it and learn about what the Jewish genocide was.”

During the meeting, Dr. William Soto discussed the goals of the project and its impact in schools and universities. He also expressed that one of the goals of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace is to educate present and future generations, making them aware of the consequences of discrimination and intolerance so that crimes are never committed against a group of people because of their racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, or religious identity again.

—Alfio Piva Maesen, Vice President of Costa Rica—

“From my point of view, I believe this is an effort we should make.”

Regarding this, the Vice President stated that it is necessary to teach about genocides, especially the Holocaust, because there is currently a lack of knowledge about the subject among youth, and one cannot allow such a dark, impacting event to be forgotten. He pledged his support to include the project through youth movements, and added that during his administration, he has worked to encourage the protection of fundamental human rights among the Costa Rican society.
