Law Students at ISAE University Analyze the Consequences of the Holocaust

The fourth "Educating to Remember - The Holocaust: Paradigm of Genocide" university forum took place at ISAE University in Panama on Tuesday, May 6.

The event was held with the participation of university officials and panelists including Holocaust survivor Simon Burstein; Dr. Xiomara de Arrocha, ISAE University Rector; and Ariel Cerrud, Coordinator of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace in Panama, with an audience of more than 100 students.

After the presentation of the forum objectives, Dr. Xiomara Arrocha shared her personal experience of visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and the Holocaust Museum in Israel. She also added that her grandchildren have been taught the history of the Holocaust in school because they live in Germany, and stated that her life has been impacted by this historical event, which is why she emphasizes the importance of these forums for students.

The educational process began with a video about the significant and horrific events that occurred during this genocide, followed by the participation of Holocaust survivor Simon Burstein, who wholeheartedly shared his life story with the audience, having survived the Holocaust along with his mother and uncles. Burstein narrated the events that impacted him when he was a child, still too young to understand why they fled from place to place without reason, and how their thin and frail bodies were the result of a regime’s animosity. Moreover, he called on those present to educate themselves further about the lack of humanity that took place in the Shoah, and to be proactive in the defense and protection of the life and integrity of human beings.

The event concluded with a question and answer session with the students, giving them the opportunity to create a connection and reflect on this genocide as future professionals.

The Traces to Remember commemorative plaque was also unveiled, which was brought from its previous exhibition at Universidad Interamericana of Panama to be displayed at ISAE University for the next 15 days.
